American actress Blythe Danner has quite a TV/theater resume in addition to having talented brood. Mother to actress/singer/author daughter, Gwyneth and director son, Jake, Danner has Pennsylvania Dutch ancestry which was featured on the show, Who Do You Think You Are?.
After an upbringing on Philadelphia’s Main Line, Danner enjoyed prep school education before her undergraduate studies at Bard College. She also spent part of 1961 as a foreign exchange student in Germany and was present when the Berlin Wall was erected.
In this video, from the 1999 Oscar’s, you can see Gwyneth’s mom translating and speaking fluent German to the reporter on the red carpet. Such a proud mother!
Gwyneth Paltrow is an “adopted daughter” of Talavera de la Reina (Spain), where at 15 she spent a year as an exchange student and learned to speak Spanish.
Paltrow remains close to the family, calling them “my Spanish mother” and “my brothers” from Spain. Her success as an actress, she says, hasn’t impressed them.
The 36-year-old actress, who is married to Coldplay’s Chris Martin, says she talks to her children in Spanish. “Moses speaks a little bit, but understands everything. Apple speaks a lot,” she says.
